Do you hear what I hear?

My dog judges me. I know that sounds silly, but she does. She judges my performance as a mother.

Since Charlie was born, Shelby thinks it is her job to serve as his protector. This is great in a lot of ways...she always barks when someone comes to the door now (a great perk for a stay at home mom who's by herself all week), and she never bothers the baby - only sits right beside him wherever he is, keeping a watchful eye on his every need.

However, if the baby should start crying and I am not right there to pick him up, she will come find me (in the kitchen or the laundry room or wherever I am) and sit and cry at me until I follow her to go get the baby. It's as if somehow she's the only one who can hear him crying and she has to let me know about it. And if I don't hop to it, she looks at me like I'm a bad mother. Like "what's wrong with you? Can't you hear the baby crying??"

I think Shelby was looking for a job and she found it. She has discovered her purpose in life and it's to take care of her baby.

Sam sort of does that too, although his look is more of a "Could you please make that kid be quiet so I can finish my nap?" Nowadays its when the kids are fighting or Natalie is throwing a fit.

You're lucky, you don't have 4 kids reminding you...the baby is crying, can't you hear the baby crying mom, mom, I can't hear the tv over the baby, are you coming to pick up the baby before Andy does...
