A Date Night Of Sorts

So last night, it began. The Scrabble Tournament of 2010. Games of Scrabble in our house are usually reserved for holiday weekends or snowy days, but it just felt like it was a good time for it. For several nights, we will play Scrabble. Five games total. What does the winner take away? Well we haven't really determined that yet. Perhaps just the pride in knowing you beat the other guy? I'm sure we'll come up with something.

By 8:30 p.m., the children were tucked away in bed. The blender was humming in the kitchen mixing up delicious banana milkshakes. The radio was tuned to NPR, playing classical Baroque in the background and my WH and I were putting forth our best efforts with words like "lurid" and "zing" and "tonic".

Something you should know about my WH is that he is AMAZING at Scrabble. Scary good. Like the Bobby Fischer of Scrabble. So the fact that I am even able to keep up with him, just a little bit, feels like a major achievement. I think I've beaten him twice in our marriage. He thinks it's only once. This was the topic of some discussion during last night's game, which he won, of course, 202-284.

I am, however, undeterred. I will keep playing and racking my brain to come up with words that not only work with the letters I have and what's available on the board, but also make use of every double letter and triple word out there. I'll let you know how that goes.
