Field Trip in the City

Today I joined OBB's class on a Field Trip to Maymont.  Maymont is an estate that was dontated by its owners to the City of Richmond and made into a park featuring the mansion, as well as farm animals, wild animals (bears, deer, bison - all contained, of course), exquisite gardens and miles of rolling hills and trails.

For the duration of the field trip, I was reponsible for OBB and the other little boy pictured below - a pretty easy task, if you ask me.

Considering the fountain

It was hot outside - reaching over 85 degrees.  We quickly became adept at finding shady places to rest.

Visiting with the Donkey

OBB befriended this Extension Employee who offered him Sugar Snap Peas.  Soon everyone was sampling vegetables straight from the garden.

She offered them peas, broccoli, radishes, beets and asparagus.  They really only ate the snap peas and the broccoli.  As I've stated before on this blog, OBB loves his broccoli.  Here he is chowing down.

After the field trip was over, and since we were already downtown, OBB and I ventured into Carytown for some ice cream at Bev's (some of the best ice cream around!).  Nothing like enjoying your favorite dessert, sitting on your own stool, in front of a huge window, watching the cars go by.  A perfect ending to a fun day.
