How to entertain a toddler for free

(and without much effort on your part)

Step 1: Take toddler to the front yard and point out leaves and rake.

Step 2: Start raking leaves into a little pile. When toddler reaches for rake, let him do it too (see below).

Step 3: Once in a pile, lean down and grab a handful of leaves and encourage toddler to do the same.

Step 4: Hold leaves over toddler's head and let go while yelling "AHHHHH!!" and encourage toddler to do the same. After one or two times of doing this, the toddler will attempt this on his own, bringing you several minutes of uninterrupted personal time, during which you can stand in the driveway and think about what you're making for dinner, whether or not you switched the laundry over and when the last time was that you changed his diaper. Enjoy.
