Up to now, I have been very concerned about OBB interacting with other children. Whenever I pick him up from places (preschool, the church nursery) the teachers will always say to me "oh, he's so good - he just keeps to himself". Not what I want to hear. I realize you always want what you don't have and if my son was a busybody or really clingy with adults, I'd be wishing he could just play by himself. However...
I was dropping him off at MOPPETTS yesterday at church and I stuck around to see what he would do once he was in the room. Immediately, he started climbing in a tunnel and playing peekaboo with a little girl in the tunnel. He had a huge smile on his face. This made me so happy. Here he was, interacting with another child, smiling and being friendly. This was great!
So when I went to pick him up after MOPS, I went be-bopping in the room and looked for OBB. He was over in a corner with a different little girl and they were taking turns banging on the wall with their hands, seeing how much noise they could make and cracking each other up. As I went to walk toward him, OBB looked the girl straight in the eye and then moved closer to her....AND HE KISSED HER!
My mouth dropped open in shock. As I exclaimed "WHAT are you DOING?!", the nursery workers just laughed. They all thought it was precious. I thought it was way too early. "You have a lot to look forward to," the nursery workers mused, "he's such a little man". He's a little man alright. A little man who has mastered the "interaction" thing way too well.
