Charlie and the Chicken Pox

That's right....OBB has the chicken pox. Where did he get it, you say? Did his mother carelessly expose him to infected children, resulting in him acquiring the disease?

Nope. His mother allowed him to be vaccinated for the disease. That's right - OBB is one of the 6% of children who actually contract chicken pox from the vaccine. Lucky him. Lucky me.

We first noticed a spot on his trunk during his bath Tuesday night. The pediatrician was shocked when I took him in yesterday. He wouldn't even charge me for the visit.

Thankfully, OBB only has a few spots and a mild fever.

I just wish he could have gotten it at a more reasonable age - like 8. I was 8 when I got it and I had a grand time. My best friend Mandy had it at the same time so we got a whole week off from school and played together every day. It was terrific.

Also, being 8, I understood that I shouldn't scratch. That's my biggest fear - that he'll get one on is face and I'll be trying to explain to a 12 month old that he shouldn't scratch...gloves in 80 degree weather, anyone?

So when you're out and about this week, think of me and OBB quarantined at home until the spots dry up. :-)

I had 2 break out in spots from the vaccine! And not at the same time!

I'll think of you both this week!

That's crazy. I'm not convinced that this vaccine is worth it!

That's what I said when I told my wife not get them vaccinated. :)

When I was a kid, I WANTED to get them so I could take some time off school. I got them on the first day of Christmas Vacation.

oh, poor baby! so sad...

my oldest sister got them when she was about 11, and my mother decided to put all 5 of us kids together so we would all have it at once. it worked... but I think she's crazy!
