Father's Day with the Philharmonic

This afternoon, we attended a free outdoor concert from the Richmond Philharmonic at a local park. It was a beautiful night and we enjoyed having a little picnic overlooking the resevoir.

The orchestra, which was located inside an airy pavillion, played favorites from Beethoven and Grieg to Gershwin and Ellington and wrapped up with a patriotic medley which included Stars and Stripes Forever. (Being used to concerts on the National Mall that fill up hours in advance, we arrived about 30 minutes early to secure a spot - as you can tell, that was not a problem.)

There was some seating inside the pavillion, but we enjoyed sitting outside on the grass and were surprised when friends from church sat down right next to us!

Baby Girl got into the music and by the end was clapping and dancing to Stars and Stripes Forever.

It was a great way to spend Father's Day with family and was my own little personal salute to my father, who loved classical and Big Band music and gave me an appreciation for it.
