Ode to a Couch (or two)

This weekend, we replaced our couches. And lest I detract from the old couches which I am striving to recognize in this post, I won't be talking about the new ones too much.

I loved our couches. WH and I both did. They were incredibly comfortable. They contained many pillows and were perfect for relaxing after a long day, cuddling a child after a boo boo or chatting with a good friend.

One of the nicest things about these couches is that they were FREE. They were given to us not too long after we were married by our family friend/former boss/expert matchmaker/stand-in mother Kay and have been with us ever since. That's over 6 years (not counting all the years her family enjoyed them).

These couches have seen it all. They've brought comfort to us through job uncertainties, two pregnancies, and multiple illnesses. They've hosted bible studies, bridal showers and play groups. They've been spilled on with everything from baby formula to red wine and withstood stains like champs. They served as the one place I could find rest when I got to the end of my pregnancy and could only sleep propped up. And they hosted some fun makeout sessions between me and my husband. :-)

We're very sad to see them go, but alas it is time. They have little holes in them now and the wear they've endured at the hands of our 3-year-old has turned two couches that started out red to almost tan.

So farewell, good friends. You served us well. We'll miss you and we thank you for being there to provide comfort to us when we needed it. It's true what they say - the best things in life are free.
