Poor EDD

I took EDD (our Emotionally Disturbed Dog) to the groomer yesterday. Tufts of orange fur were literally enveloping my house, the dog looked like a miniature lion and I'd had enough. So when they suggested using clippers on her and mentioned how this would be a great time of year to try it, I acquiesced. Between trying to manage a visibly shivering dog who had already let her bowels go on groomer's lobby floor and corral a very busy OBB, who was in the process of discovering that, in fact, ALL of the dog toys hanging on the wall squeaked if you just grabbed them the right way, I went against my better judgement (and my WH's stated wishes) and got her shaved. It won't be that bad, I told myself. It's summer, it's 90 degrees everyday and this way she won't have to come back here for 3-4 months.

When we came to pick her up, we were stunned. I have provided the photographic "before and after shots" to give you a sense of the difference.

Before...

After...

In case you were wondering how EDD likes her new do, she started throwing up this morning in our bedroom at 5 a.m. After three times of her throwing up, my dutiful husband cleaning up said vomit and trying his best to dissipate the accompanying odor, I made the mistake of saying "Do you think she picked up something at the groomer? Some illness?" My WH looked up from the most recent crime scene on our floor and said "Now don't you go over-spiritualizing this - thinking that God is mad at you or trying to tell you something. This is very simple. She's just upset about her haircut." I decided I had better be quiet after that.

i cannot wait to show this post to Floyd. all i can say is - we've had discussions about JH's shedding madness this summer on a daily basis. Maybe hourly. and the "SHAVE HIM" suggestion has been tossed out there. But after laughing hysterically at EDD, i'm not sure even he could endure such embarassment.

She reminds me of a chimera.

wow, she looks like a different dog!! I've had enough of the shedding as well. So last week, at 5 am no less, in my jammies, Ollie and I went out side with a pair of clippers. A dog groomer, I am not. Good thing he can't see in a mirror!! Yikes!

dying to know how the cut has affected the shedding... let us know if the humiliation is worth it in the cleaning department...

I would say shedding is much improved - you don't end up with a clump of fur in your hand when you pet her anymore. But I'm just not sure if the psychological impacts are worth it. She's been a little depressed lately.
