End of the Summer

Since my "Mommy Summer Camp", things have taken an unfortunate turn.  My mother has been in the hospital for three weeks now with complications from diabetes including two surgeries to remove part of her foot.  She will be there a little while longer and will have a long recovery.

After many days of being at the hospital and trying to make arrangements to get her moved into a first floor apartment (the move is this week), while outsourcing the summer entertainment of my children to many good friends, I had a reprieve this weekend in the form of family coming for a visit.  My brother-in-law and his family from Maine came to visit for a couple days.  We spent our time together watching OBB's race on Saturday, taking the kids to the movies, going out to eat, and grilling steaks at home.  Tonight was one of those great evenings when the adults can sit, sip their coffee, and enjoy dessert and conversation while listening to giggles and screams of delight as the children engaged in a highly competitive game of hide and seek all over the house.  In other words, it was just what we needed.  A break from bad news, serious conversations with doctors and fretting about the future to just sit and enjoy life as it is right now.

Here's OBB and Baby Girl with Mr. J - their favorite cousin - although "Billy" comes in a close second at the moment - on our way to church this morning.

Thank you God for carrying me through this and reminding what's important, even in the midst of my current season of craziness.
