Reflections from a day spent in the land of the Stomach Bugs

(Disclaimer: If you get queasy easily, this post isn’t for you. Just skip it. Thank you.)

-I used to think that one of the worst things that could happen in the middle of the night is for you to wake up to your baby crying and discover vomit all over his crib. Scratch that – I now think one of the worst things that can happen is for your 4-year-old to wake you up by puking his way down the hallway and into your room. Carpets are much harder to clean than sheets.

-There is a little part of me (a very little part) that likes that my son becomes extra snuggly when he’s sick. However, the vomit laundry and worry over his high fever pretty much undoes all of the joy of snuggling.

-I am thankful for my husband who crawled around the hallway on all fours between the hours of 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. this morning scrubbing the carpets (twice).

-I am thankful that my son is old enough to learn to throw up in a bucket (once his parents wised up and placed one next to his bed).

-You look kind of funny when you are walking into the Dr’s office carrying your 4-year-old in your arms and holding your 2-year-old’s hand as she walks beside you.

-It is perfectly acceptable to put a 4- year-old back in pull-ups when he has a stomach virus and you realize he cannot control his bowels.

-Stomach virus spreads like wildfire. In less than 24 hours, Baby Girl was down for the count.

-I’m thankful that I didn’t have anywhere to be today besides on the couch with OBB.

-I’m thankful that my husband came home from work tonight, assessed the situation and gave me a big hug and whispered in my ear “It’s going to be ok. We’ll get through this. We always do.”
