Raking and Racing

This month we've spent lots of time outdoors - mostly at the racetrack, but also enjoying the warm fall we've been given this year.

We've gone to church, where OBB is taking the New Believer's Class in preparation for his baptism.

We've raked leaves, which is a never-ending job at our house in the fall - but lots of fun when you jump in piles!

And we've done lots and lots of racing.  During the race pictured below, we had two families from our church come out to cheer on OBB.

OBB distinguished himself this year by winning the championship title in both of the classes he races in.  Championships are awarded according to points (similar to Nascar's points championship).  At each race, the winner is given 70 pts, the second place finisher is given 65 pts and the 3rd place finisher is given 60 pts and so on.   In his kid kart, OBB and one other boy went back and forth all season and every win was a hard fought one, but OBB prevailed.  This is the second year in a row he has won this title.

This was OBB's first full year driving his Jr. Stars Kart (pictured below).  OBB won the Championship this year with a perfect score - he had 70 pts for every race.  They take all of the races throughout the year (18) and let you have 3 drops - you get to drop your three lowest races.  This helps if you miss a race or have a bad night with your equipment.  So after his 3 drops, OBB had 15 wins.

Next season, OBB will move up to 2 higher classes for his two karts: Jr. Sportsman 1 Champ, which is a different looking kart with a roll cage and a 5 point harness, and Jr. Sportsman 1 Sprint - which will be his same Jr. Stars Kart, just set to go faster.  Both of these classes are for 8-10 year olds, so it will definitely be a learning year for OBB next season.
