One day last week, OBB came home and announced that he thought he knew whom he was going to marry. Her name is Callie and she is in his kindergarten class. Having served as a volunteer in his class, I am familiar with Callie. She is a sweet girl with kind blue eyes and long blonde hair going all the way down her back…you could say she has a Rapunzel-like quality to her.
When I asked OBB how he came to this decision, he said they were laying down for rest time next to each other and said “I love you, I love you , I love you” to one another and that pretty much sealed the deal.
“Did she ask you to marry her?” I queried.
“No, I just know that I want to marry her.”
“And why is that exactly?” I interrogated further.
“Because she just looks so pretty” he replied, followed by a big sigh.
Fast forward to last night. It was kindergarten night for his school at Chick-Fil-A. We sat as a family eating our meal, and as soon as Callie and her mother walked in, OBB completely lost focus and could only gaze at her.
“Can I get up? Can I go to the play area? Pleeeaaaase!!!”
I relented and let him go because really, if you try to keep them apart, you’re just making it more attractive, right? It’s bad enough that my five-year-old is now technically betrothed. I don’t need him developing an obsession based on forbidden love just yet.
