Mommy’s Blog: Snow Day 13

That’s right. It’s been 13 days since OBB had preschool. I am hoping that he will have school tomorrow.

Please don’t get me wrong here – I love being with my children. That’s why I am a Stay at Home Mom. But when it’s freezing outside and you can’t even get out of the house for days and days, you start running out of things to do.

We’ve played games – all kinds of games. Board games, computer games, you name it. We’ve baked cookies. We’ve put together more puzzles than I can count. We’ve colored and painted and played with stickers.

And to be honest, at this point, it isn’t even that hard anymore. I think it’s the shock of finding out the night before (and sometimes even the day of) that your day’s plans have been scuttled and you’re spending the whole day inside that sets you off-balance a little.

See, I’m a planner. And had I known I would have 13 days to spend in my house with my children, I would have brought in reinforcements. A trip to Target or Michael’s for supplies would have been in order. But this was a complete surprise…and every day after was also a surprise.

But by day 13, I’ve kind of gotten in a groove. I can see how my typical snow day is going to go and so I am comfortable with it. No rush to be anywhere, no hurry to change out of our pajamas into regular clothes. Sure, I’ve certainly had some tough days in there, including the day we all had lunch at 11 a.m. and everyone was down for naps by noon because Mommy needed a little peace and quiet. But by now, snow days are almost my new routine.

And let me just say that if you are one of those people who feels the need to tell me how wonderful your time with your children has been for the past two weeks and that you can’t understand why I would lament such a circumstance, I would politely ask you to stop reading my blog because You. Just. Don’t. Get. It.

While I am eagerly anticipating preschool resuming tomorrow, I am also keenly aware of the forecast which calls for more snow next week. I believe we’ve had snow here in March even in the couple years since I’ve lived here, so I’m sure there’s more on the way. Hopefully, I’ll be able to fall back into my “snow day groove” a little more easily next time.

Probably over the last two weeks, it amounts to about two feet - which is a huge amount of snow for us!
